Where Have All The Children Gone?

I don't mean to offend or judge anyone by making this observation, but what do kids do all day these days? I have been pondering this the entire summer because there are rarely children outside. Almost everytime I take my kids to the park, it is empty. When we are playing in the backyard, I hardly ever hear other kids voices. When we are on walks, we don't see anyone. When I drive through the neighborhood- nothing. There are hardly ever children in any yard. It is like a ghost town. I know almost every house in this neighborhood has at least 1 child that resides there. What do these kids do all day? That is what I am wondering. I know times have changed since I was little, but I remember being outside all day in the summertime playing. We didn't want to stay inside. We were out in the sun all day long. It is so different now. Maybe it is just because I can still remember the Georgia heat and humidity, so it never seems very hot to me. There is always a nice breeze and if you are in the shade, it is really quite comfortable. Anyway, I was just wondering.

Once again I realize that we have the best parents ever. They taught us so well. I don't think we can ever repay them for that. haha. And I totally agree, every darn video game machine should be burned. Bill's a perfect example of what they do....

I think childhood is gone, and has been replaced by the game machine and scheduled activities. I'd rather just let my kids be kids, play outside all day, make noise, run around, ride bikes, and the like. They have so much fun, and it doesn't cost anything. :) I honestly feel sad for the kids who aren't able to do that for one reason or another.

I agree, growing up we had land so we would always be doing something outside!! I hope someday soon we can have a house with at least 3 acres so my kids can just run and play!! It sucks not having grass yet out here but the kids still enjoy the dirt, i don't as much though! If i was still there i would love to come and play in your pretty yard:)

My kids are playing inside all summer. The playground toys here will give you 3rd degree burns. The rest of the year they are in the back yard though.

It's so true about Georgia being so much hotter in the summer time and it's funny cause we come here and everyone is dying of heat but it feels so great to me. I wonder as a kid how I ever went swimming during these Idaho summers cause it just doesn't seem hot enough. My kids can play outside all day long here and it doesn't bother them a bit. Gosh, I miss Idaho summers so bad. Absolutely let the kids be outside as long as they want to. It's so good for them!!! They'll have ample time during the winter to watch TV.

Our neighborhood is cool I guess. My kids are almost constantly sweaty and smell like dirt!
