Andrew's 16th Birthday Party!

We had to have a bunny cake, as a joke, because Andrew's birthday was always close to Easter and sometimes on Easter and when he was little we always made him a bunny cake.
Nothing says birthday party like cupcakes, right?

A warm welcome from the sidewalk

Opening presents

This looks worse than it is. Millie just wanted to be in the picture too!

Playing a get to know you game-

I can't believe that Andrew is turning 16 years old! I remember the day I found out that my mom was pregnant with him and it doesn't seem like it was that long ago.

I thought it would be fun to have a CAKE Taste Test and a Dance Dance Revolution tournament. We had the party at my house and all of Andrew's friends came and had a great time. At first I thought that we would have 16 cakes to test, but everyone thought that was too many, so we had 8. It was fun for me, because I like making cake and also fun to see what was the most popular. Everyone voted for their top 2 picks, and the contestants were...

Caramel Frosted Hummingbird Cake

Zucchini Pistachio Cupcakes

Praline Mini Bundt Cakes

Chocolate Cupcakes (pictured above) and Bunny Cake (also pictured above)

Tied for Second- French Banana Cake

Tied for Second- Poppyseed with Lemon Glaze

And the winner- Strawberry-Lime Layer Cake

We had a ton of fun and Laura Dawn won the DDR tournament, playing against Matt in the Final. Go, Lar! (For any of the cake recipes go to My Food Blog)- I really recommend trying the Strawberry Cake, it was delicious!

Mare, you pretty much take the "cake" HAHA! I can't believe your ambition. I am getting very tired just reading about the party. How nice of you to put that together. You are a great sister!

I agree with Jaime...why did we miss out on all of your baking. Holy smokes, those cupcakes are so cute and I can practially taste all the other goodies through the computer screen. Yum! Do you ever make the same thing twice or do you always make something new?? Do you have favorites you make over and over?

I do have some favorites that I make more than once, but I love trying new things. Once a week I make a family favorite for dinner, but the rest of the time I experiment and try new recipes. With the cakes for this party- I had never made any of them before, but had been eyeing all the recipes, so now I know which ones are great and which ones not to make again. That is why I did it at a party because I knew that there wouldn't be much leftover (I made all the teenagers take huge plates of cake home!
