Our move back across the US- the Grand Canyon, and other stops along the way

I am finally able to update our blog with pictures! I had over 500 pics when I finally downloaded them the other day. I am going to take this a post at a time.
When we were driving across the US to Georgia, Matt really wanted to stop and take a couple of hours to see the Grand Canyon.
We walked along the rim and enjoyed a sunny, yet cool day.

Savannah was a little scared in the tree.
Matt always has enjoyed pictures that make it look like you are on a cliff. I don't have his same love of adventure, so alot of the things that he was doing made my stomach turn.

We spent a couple of hours walking around, enjoying the sites, and we ate lunch. Then, we got back in the car and made our way to Albuquerque, where we were able to stay with my Uncle Kenny and his wife, Christine. We were so thankful to be able to stay in their beautiful home. Ry couldn't get enough kisses from their dog, Henry.
We were able to visit my grandma, who also lives in Albuquerque and then we got back in the car and drove to Oklahoma City, with an afternoon stop by the Biggest cross in the world.
We stayed overnight in Oklahoma City and I really wanted to go and see the Oklahoma City Memorial. The weather was very windy and quite cold on the morning that we went to see the Memorial.
It was quite a sobering experience for me.
Ryanne was asking me to read her the names of the victims. It made me cry.
The kids put their handprint on the wall, with water from the reflection pool.
It was so cold, that Matt ran back to the car and got the kids towels to cover up.

The survivor tree
This was a really hard thing for me to explain to my kids. How do you tell them about evil people that want to hurt innocent human beings? It is hard to find the words to explain these events. They just don't understand how something so horrific could happen, especially in their happy, sheltered life.

These were the highlights of our drive.
I have a ton more pictures, but I am tired of the computer for now.

Gorgeous landscape pictures! That must have been so fun to experience as a family.

As for the Oklahoma City Memorial, it's absolutely beautiful for the way they were able to capture a feeling of reverence for the people who died there. I can only imagine the emotions that place must conjure up. Really, how do you even explain what happened to sweet, guileless children?

I'm glad you posted the pics because I don't know that I've actually seen many pictures since after the devastation. It's nice to know they transformed it into a place of peace.

i am really glad you were able to drive through my mission.
"geez--there were only like, 14 people killed in the bombing."
"uh...no more like over a hundred."
